MOVE is a Philadelphia-based black liberation group founded by John Africa (born Vincent Leaphart) in 1972. Its members frequently engage in public demonstrations against racism, police brutality, and other issues.

In a 1985, a police standoff ended when a helicopter dropped an incendiary device on their compound, a row house in the middle of Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia. The resulting fire killed eleven MOVE members, including five children. The out of control fire went on to destroy 65 other houses in the neighborhood.
